2014 Keen Teens
Festival of New Work

by Kristoffer Diaz
directed by Daisy Walker

There's a big high school basketball game next week, and the opposing point guards are about to go on their first date. A comedy about doubting yourself, defending your teammates, and dribbling with both hands.

by Halley Feiffer
directed by Liz Carlson

Why Aren't You Dead Already follows a community in the aftermath of a teen's suicide prompted by vicious bullying. Through flashbacks, we watch them react with heartbreak, shock, and even denial—showing how collective thoughtlessness can make the unthinkable very real.

by Kenny Finkle
directed by Jesse Geiger

Devastated by the recent loss of her brother, Sydney A. Arthur takes a trip to the desert with nothing but her best friend Go, a beat-up bike and a backpack full of "provisions". But the desert can be a scary place in a storm and winds are rising. A comic journey of self discovery loosely inspired by Herman Hesse’s SIDDARTHA.

About Keen Teens

Keen Teens is a unique educational theater program that improves the quality of plays written for high school students by commissioning scripts from highly regarded professional playwrights. Playwrights are commissioned to write 30-minute plays that involve a large cast and reflect Keen Company's mission of producing plays that speak to the heart and provoke identification.

The plays are performed by high school students from across the tri-state area, as part of a free program immersing students in the experience of producing a new play. The plays are designed and directed by theatre professionals, providing students a unique opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented artists working in New York today.

With our program partner Samuel French, Inc., we publish the plays and make them available for future productions. Stay tuned for news of the launch of the 2013 plays this fall.

Over seven seasons, Keen Teens has presented new work by Courtney Baron, Barton Bishop, Bekah Brunstetter, Jonathan Caren, Bathsheba Doran, Anton Dudley, Liz Flahive, Marcus Gardley, Madeleine George, Jason Grote, Naomi Iizuka, Greg Kotis, Mike Lew, Cheri Magid, Winter Miller, Michael Mitnick, Anna Moench, Janine Nabers, Qui Nguyen, Ryan Pavelchik, Jenny Schwartz and Kathryn Walat.

Keen Teens was originally developed by Keen Company and Playscripts, Inc. Plays from the first six seasons can be perused at http://www.playscripts.com/keen.
